Helping to combine efforts to create a sustainable future at of Staffordshire & Stoke-On-Trent COP 2024 Conference.
The Staffordshire & Stoke-on-Trent COP2024 kicked off on Friday, marking the launch of a bold 10-year project to drive collaborative action on sustainability.
This initiative goes beyond traditional conferences, fostering a movement that empowers residents and businesses to build a sustainable future together. Since its inception in October 2023, the COP has already engaged a significant 337 people through co-design workshops, tackling challenges like food systems, healthcare, and climate change.
“We have a critical opportunity to shape a positive legacy for future generations,” said Kate Copeland-Rhodes, Managing Director of The Globe Group CIC, the project’s instigator. “The COP aims to be a springboard for existing sustainability efforts and a platform for those needing support.”
The Doughnut Economics model guides the COP, ensuring a balance between meeting human needs and environmental limits. Inspired by success in other UK regions, the COP will explore themes like local economies, well-being, and nature-based solutions through workshops, tools and interactive events.
Action is at the core of the COP. The sold-out launch event, drawing over 150 attendees from communities, councils, businesses, and academia, saw participants pledge 50 impactful actions towards sustainability. Furthermore, the COP launched a Place Survey & Project & Asset Map, accessible online, to guide future efforts.
The next steps involve collaborating with key stakeholders to develop a comprehensive Portrait of Place, assessing the current situation, defining the desired future, and charting a collaborative roadmap for achievement.
